We're going to belize...as a family!
The last time we were in Belize, Christopher and I were just dating. Now just a few short years later, we are married and we have a 1 year old (the first "Awaken" baby). Time has flown by and we miss our Belizean friends. Let me back up, for those of you who may not know our story.
Back in 2010, I went on a mission trip with my church and led worship for the Awaken Belize conference, the first one ever. Six years later, Awaken is an annual event in southern Belize attended by young people from all over the country. In 2011, we were in need of a production manager for the event, someone who knew about lights, projection and sound from a professional standpoint. Well, I thought of my longtime friend "Corky", a professional AV tech who toured with a national youth conference and had been on a few mission trips. He agreed to join our team of teens and adults traveling to Belize to help put on this big event in order to spread the gospel and see lives changed in Belize. The following year, he joined us again and I began to get questions about this "Corky" guy (Christopher's nickname) and how we got along wonderfully and worked so well together. People just automatically paired us off. Things between us progressed and in January 2013 our friendship developed into a romance, we dated and were married that November. Five months later, we found out we were expecting our precious daughter Caely, who was born January 10, 2015.
We've been asked to return to Belize this July to help with the 7th annual Awaken Belize Conference. The young people in Belize need Jesus. Many of them cohabitate, endure domestic abuse, have children with multiple partners and suffer in a country with one of the highest murder and crime rates in the world. Many young people are hopeless and don't think they have a future, but we know God has a hope and plan for their lives. Since we are not a part of Gateway Church that is sending a team to Belize, we are fundraising independently to go and serve in Belize this summer. We need $3,000.00 to cover airfare, transportation, travel insurance, food and lodging for our ten day stay in Belize (tentatively July 25-August 2). We have set a deadline to purchase airfare on May 1st before prices go up.
To help us raise money, we've started a YouCaring account to enable our friends and family to give easily online. It takes five minutes to give and any dollar amount helps. Along with financial support, we need people to pray for us during the trip. We have been on multiple missions trips, but never with an 18 month old. Haha! So if you want to receive a magnet with prayer points for this trip, just fill out the form below and we will mail it to you.
Lastly, we will be doing two benefit concerts in Dallas, on Friday evening April 22 and Saturday afternoon on May 14. I'll be playing and I may have a few friends join me. It will be outdoors, family friendly, with free hot dogs, drinks and a silent auction. If you live in the DFW area, we'd love to have you join us! I will post the info on social media and update this page with all the info as we get closer.
So that is our news, we are looking forward to serving in Belize again this summer.
